St. Joseph

September 21, 2008

Hillary and I packed up and drove up to good old St Joseph, MO on Friday for their annual figure skating competition. We also took along little Jessie (seventh grader) who wanted a ride up. I had to speed all the way there; we decided to stop at Sonic first, at about 12:15, which turned into a big long ordeal since we HAD to go to the park and eat, even though we knew our friend Myah was skating at 1:30 and it takes a little over an hour to get there.

Thanks to my awesome driving skills, we got there in time… actually, thanks to the competition running late EVERY YEAR, we got there in time to see Myah. She did awesome, got 2nd out of 8? in her freestyle Friday. Elizabeth was next, at 3:30, she got 6 out of 8, which was what she wanted since that was the pink ribbon medal. (Yeah, she’s weird.)

So Hil and I stayed at the rink for awhile, then went shopping at Target because that is THE place to go in St Joe. I spent $100.17 on things I don’t need, then we went to dinner at some bar & grill place that really kinda sucked. My mom’s friend offered to host us for the night in her house up there, so we got to her place around 8:30 after getting lost since both of us have such bad eyesight at night that we couldn’t read any of the road signs. We get there finally, and she wasn’t home. So we mess around, take a bunch of pictures in the dark, and I ended up calling her and she told us the front door was open. Oops.

Saturday morning, we get ready and head to the rink. Myah and Sofie (Victoria’s synchro buddy) were doing compulsaries at the same level, AT THE SAME TIME, which proved really difficult for me to take pictures of them both. Sofie got 1st, Myah 4th. Hil watched a lot of the skating for other groups while I ran around entertained by Victoria. We then went to the most AWESOME ice cream place, with Victoria and Sofie in tow (plus Gary, Victoria’s grandpa, and Sofie’s mom.) They had sandboxes and a badminton court so we hung around there for a good hour. The four of them left to go back to Kansas City to World’s of Fun, and Hillary and I searched for more things to do.

We decided we wanted to swing. I got out my good old iPhone, got on the Parks & Rec website, and randomly picked a park. I picked badly- it hadn’t been mowed for a good month and there was a wasp that was chasing us, so we sprinted back to the car. We had passed an elementary school on the way, so we went there and found some swings. That was fun for awhile. Then, I wanted to search for a Halloween costume, and off to Spirit Halloween we went. Sadly, I did not find what I was looking for. (A cowgirl costume- I’m taking my five-year-old Gwen trick-or-treating and we’re going to be cowgirls.) The next cool place to shop in St Joe is TJ Maxx, so we went there too. And I spent about $100 again on things I don’t need. Yay! My mom came up for the day to see her friend that we were staying with, and Hil and I met them at Borders so I could buy some books, then we went to dinner with them at this yummy place called Cheddars.

The plan was to leave today, Sunday, but we were both exhausted and had homework so we decided to leave Saturday night. That was fun; I took Hillary home and when we got to her house, her door was ajar, so of course she was freaking out… but turns out her dad left it ajar for whatever reason, so all was safe and good.

It was a fun weekend though, our next trip is going to be to the Lake of the Ozarks =)

  1. I’m exhausted just reading that! Sounds like you had loads of fun!

  2. Your hair… it’s… brown.

  3. Yep!
Now it’s lighter, I got it highlighted yesterday and it’s mostly ashy/frosty blonde… pretty close to my natural color now actually.
